Symposium 2024
The Jewish Week Dresden invites you to rethink Jewish culture!
This year, we are hosting a groundbreaking symposium titled “Jewish, Now! – The Significance of Jewish Culture for a Democratic Society” on April 15th and 16th, 2024, in collaboration with the Office for Culture and Monument Protection.
Why? Unfortunately, the sponsoring association cannot organize a festival in 2024 due to the need for internal renewal.
To gather inspiration for our process of change and to collectively generate new ideas for the further development of our festival and the planned thematic year 2026 “Jewish Culture in Saxony,” we have decided to hold this symposium.
Our aim is to reflect on vibrant Jewish culture and collectively find answers to questions such as: What is the significance of Jewish culture within the broader cultural landscape? How can we create positive spaces for Jewish themes? What can we learn from others’ experiences, and how can we enrich each other?
We are excited to welcome national and international speakers, including Keith Kahn-Harris, author of the book “How Do Jews Look Like,” and Lea Wohl von Haselberg, curator of the Jewish Film Festival Berlin-Brandenburg. During the symposium, participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with each other and with experts to gain new perspectives on the communication and representation of Jewish themes.
The symposium is aimed at a specialist audience but is also open to the interested public. It will take place at the Kulturrathaus, Königstr. 15, 01097 Dresden. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Cultural Foundation of Saxony for supporting our initiative.
On the evening of April 15th, we plan to host a public concert and would be delighted to welcome you there. You can find the detailed program here.
