The expressionist poet Else Lasker-Schüler is the namesake of the Else Ensemble, in which outstanding young German and Israeli musicians play, all of whom are friends with each other. All of them are laureates of international competitions and members of the world’s leading orchestras and play not only string, woodwind and piano chamber music, but also many other types of instruments. Her wide and fascinating repertoire consists mainly of works by German and Israeli composers from the 19th century to the present.
The trio is dedicated to the music of non-Jewish and Jewish composers of the 19th, 20. and 21st century and explores the repertoire for neglected works or repressed by political events. In the wonderful instrumentation for clarinet, bassethorn and piano, the Else Ensemble offers a colorful program with romantic works as well as klezmer and jazz.
