Author reading with Yuriy Gurzhy

The well-known DJ and musician Yuriy Gurzhy is constantly on the lookout for the current Jewish sound of Germany. Also in his first book “Richard Wagner and the Klezmer Band” he confidently mixes exciting and extraordinary stories.

His interviewees include a rabbi who writes music parodies, a Californian rapper whose great-grandfather wrote songs in Hamburg before the war that are still sung there today, a Green politician who performed Yiddish songs or a singer who combines Bavarian folklore with Yiddish songs.

The voices in this book belong to the people who directly and indirectly influenced and created Germany’s contemporary Jewish music scene. Yuriy Gurzhy’s Russian disco DJ colleague Vladimir Kaminer also has his say.
