Jewish Week Dresden as a Place of Learning
Jewish Week Dresden sees itself not only as a cultural festival, but also as a place of learning, encounter and exchange. Many events address topics that play an important role in the classroom: Jewish life today, remembrance culture, democracy, antisemitism, identity and social diversity.
Through our education program, we aim to support teachers in exploring these topics together with their pupils and in integrating a festival visit meaningfully into their lessons. For the first time, we are developing materials, event-related prompts and formats specifically for schools in Dresden.
Education Programs for Dresden Schools
Jewish Week’s education programs connect cultural experiences with school-based learning. Selected events are accompanied by concise teaching notes, links to the curriculum and suggestions for preparation and follow-up. This creates an accessible approach that broadens classroom teaching and turns a festival visit into an extracurricular learning experience.
Our education package is aimed particularly at teachers of History; Ethics; Social Studies, Law and Economics; and Protestant and Catholic Religious Education.
In addition, numerous events offer direct points of connection for lessons in German, Art, Music and Drama. Many programs can also be used across subjects and open up approaches to topics such as democracy, remembrance culture, identity, cultural diversity and living together in society.

Meet a Jew: Encounters with Jewish Life Today
As part of Jewish Week Dresden, school classes can take part in an encounter with Meet a Jew. This nationwide dialogue project run by the Central Council of Jews in Germany adds a special educational component to the festival program. Encounters take place during Jewish Week and afterwards, and are arranged individually with each school.

For the first time, Jewish Week Dresden is inviting teachers to an online information session. In 45 minutes, you will receive a concise overview of the festival program as well as suggestions for integrating selected events into lessons using appropriate teaching methods. The session is aimed at teachers from all types of secondary school in Dresden and offers an opportunity for professional exchange and individual questions.
Participation is free of charge. After registering, you will receive a confirmation. On the day before the event, we will send you the access link and a brief reminder by email.
