I COME FROM

Every day, we are categorised according to language, appearance, clothing or origin. We fit into boxes – but sometimes we do not. I COME FROM is a performance about identity, visibility, pigeonholing and the question of what we know about one another. Through personal research, encounters and conversations, young people from the Dresden Youth Art School trace the stories that have shaped them and look for those that remain largely invisible in everyday life. In the process, they encounter gaps, prejudices and new perspectives. The starting point is the question of why Jewish life is often invisible in their own everyday lives. Do we even know a single person who is Jewish? What does that say about our society? What images do we have of one another – and which stories are missing? An artistic dialogue from the perspective of young people, using language, movement and theatrical elements. Recommended for young people aged 13 to 17.

A production by the Dresden Youth Art School as part of the TACHELES 2026 themed year – Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony, funded by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony.

On 2 November, the performance takes place at Bürgerhaus Prohlis, Gamigstraße 26, 01239 Dresden. School classes are asked to register in advance and reserve tickets by email: info@jks.dresden.de.

Each of the two morning performances will be followed by a discussion with some of the performers, to which pupils are warmly invited.

Ticket price for school classes: €3 per pupil; accompanying adults free.
