THE SPECIAL SHABBAT

Ten years, ten evenings that have brought people together, enriched their lives and remained unforgettable: THE SPECIAL SHABBAT is celebrating an anniversary! Each year, the event invites a Jewish chef to give the evening a new and personal culinary signature. This year’s guest is chef, researcher and author Sibel Cuniman Pinto, who works between Istanbul and Paris and is one of the foremost representatives of Sephardic cuisine. Her menu brings five centuries of history to the table. Sephardic traditions, Mediterranean flavours and characteristic Shabbat elements come together in an evening that connects food, memory and the present.

The menu is accompanied by insights from Jewish ambassadors, who speak about everyday Jewish life, traditions and perspectives in an open and welcoming atmosphere. Shabbat, the weekly day of rest in Judaism, becomes a shared experience – respectful, warm and entirely free of proselytising. The focus is on togetherness: sharing thoughts, experiences and good food. Everyone is welcome, regardless of origin, religion or prior knowledge.

Sibel Cuniman Pinto trained at the international culinary school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and completed postgraduate studies in gastronomy at the University of Reims. In 2010, her book “The Evolution of the Sephardic Cuisine in Turkey” received the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Culinary History Cookbook.
