Living the Dream with Grandma

Living the Dream with Grandma is a lyrical and at the same time humorous solo performance by the Hungarian artist László Göndör about coming to terms with a third-generation trauma.

How important is feedback in your life?
I do my job, and if it’s something, they’ll notice.
And if they don’t?
Well, yes, and if they don’t. Now, give me that gingerbread.”

This unique multimedia piece takes place for a month, in the middle of the pandemic lockdown in Budapest, when László, suffering from an identity crisis, moves in with his 97-year-old grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. This is followed by 32 days in which grandmother and grandson try to comprehend each other’s pain and trauma, as well as their deep mutual love.

Using video and audio recordings made during their cohabitation, their conversations are re-enacted to show the deep impact the Holocaust and the traumas associated with it had on their personalities and their relationship.

Hungarian with English surtitles.
